Marc VDS Racing Team’s Scott Redding led a one-two with teammate Mika Kallio at the first outing of the Moto2™ teams on a wet first day of testing at Jerez.

With a wet track, steady rain, as well as further bad weather forecast, the grid had to accept that dry track time is most likely out of the question for today. Nonetheless, teams and riders were using the opportunity to work on their wet bike set-up, with Redding setting the quickest lap of 1.54’876, just over one tenth ahead of Kallio.

Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2’s Jordi Torres, was third, whilst Blusens Avintia’s Toni Elías, who had been quickest early on, ended session one in fourth. Italtrans Racing Team’s Julián Simón jumped up the timesheet late on to go fifth, as NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Simone Corsi continued his consistency from last week’s test and finished the morning just over seventh tenths off the top in sixth. The Valencian pace-setter, Tuenti HP 40’s Pol Espargaró, put his Kalex in seventh after completing only 14 laps, while Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2’s Nico Terol, who is still deciding between which Suter chassis to use, ended the morning eighth.

The riders were lapping in conjunction with Moto3™ machines, yet will be granted sole track time for a period this afternoon, which should see times drop.
