Poor weather blights Cookstown 100 practice

The KDM Hire Cookstown 100 lifts the curtain on the 2013 Irish national road racing season in Co Tyrone, with a host of top names set to serve up some first-class action.

Friday’s practice sessions on the 2.1-mile Orritor circuit in Co Tyrone were affected by variable weather conditions including heavy rain and hail showers, although Saturday’s forecast makes for more favourable reading.

As a result of the weather, some sessions were controlled.

William Dunlop, who will give his factory-spec Milwaukee/CD Racing Yamaha R6 its roads debut at Cookstown, told the News Letter: “I was told the Supersport and Superbike practice was untimed so I just went for a bit of a run around to get some track time.

“I’m not sure how they’ll decide the grid positions for tomorrow – it’s in the hands of the organisers. It was a bit of a nightmare all day with red flags and the weather.”

The line-up includes Tyco Suzuki’s Guy Martin, plus Michael Dunlop on his new-look Hunts Motorcycles/McAdoo Honda Superbike and Supersport machines.
