Well over 400 people turned out to raise almost £4,000 in memory of a TT legend last night.

The Joey Dunlop Memorial Lap set off from the Grandstand and saw 341 bikes led by a three-wheeler from IOM Trike Tours.

Former TT and Manx Grand Prix rider Steve Parrish got the event underway.

In all, 427 people took part, raising £3,911 towards the cost of building more apartments at Braddan Bridge House.

Huge support for Joey Dunlop memorial lap

More than 400 people including a former GP racer supported the Joey Dunlop Foundation annual Joey Dunlop memorial lap which took place in warm sunshine on Wednesday night.

The conditions were in stark contrast to the previous night when appalling weather persuaded organisers to postpone the run from Tuesday as fog and driving rain continued unabated.

Foundation chairman Kevin Quirk said they had been delighted with the response.

‘There were 425 people taking part – including (former racer) Steve Parrish – and 337 bikes set out for the lap. We raised just under £4,000 for the charity which is a fantastic response,’ he said.

‘Riders enjoy doing the lap but people say one of the real attractions is the number of people lining the course and waving.

‘Everyone said they could not believe the crowds watching.’

Mr Parrish, now a regular commentator for Moto GP and ITV4’s TT coverage, flagged away the first riders from the grandstand before jumping onto his own bike and joining them.

The charity is to extend its disabled holiday accommodation at Braddan Bridge next year.
