Michael Dunlop joins a stellar line-up for this weekend’s Steve Henshaw International Gold Cup road races at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough, where the Isle of Man TT star has added the 250GP and Supertwin races to his schedule.

Dunlop, who is set to rejoin the Honda TT Legends team for the final round of the Endurance World Championship at the famous Le Mans 24 Hours meeting in France later this month, will ride a 250cc Honda and a Kawasaki ER6 in John Burrows’ Cookstown/BE Racing colours at the ‘Mount’.

The 24-year-old is also among the main contenders for the feature Gold Cup honours on his MD Racing Honda Fireblade, when he clashes again with event specialist Guy Martin on the Tyco Suzuki.

Dunlop will face his brother William in the 250cc class at the North Yorkshire venue, who will ride the MD Racing Honda in what could be the final races for the quarter-litre machines as the decline in two-stroke racing continues.

In the Supertwin class, Dunlop’s rivals include Dean Harrison, Ivan Lintin and Jamie Hamilton, who survived a frightening 150mph crash at the Killalane road races on Sunday.

Team boss Burrows said: “Michael’s riding a 250 and a Supertwin for me at Scarborough and I’ve been chatting to him for a while now about getting a spin out on my bikes.

“I run a small team and it’s nice to be able to put a seven-time TT winner out on my bikes because it gets us some publicity for my sponsors. It’s a bit of craic as well and if Michael gets a result then it’s a bonus,”
added Burrows.

“I only ever went to Scarborough once about 19 years ago when I was helping out Phelim Owens, who was competing in the British Isles Championship as it was known back then, so I’m looking forward to going over again.”

Lincolnshire rider Martin has a formidable record at Oliver’s Mount and is bidding for a ninth success in the prestigious Gold Cup race on the Tyco Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Along with Dunlop, Bradford prospect Harrison and Padgett’s Honda riders John McGuinness and Bruce Anstey are among his key challengers.

Lee Johnston, a rostrum finisher at the North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix this year, will make his debut at Oliver’s Mount, riding in the Superbike, Supersport and Supertwin races.
