Alex Lowes and Samsung Honda maintained their position at the top of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship timesheets at Assen as the title protagonist set the pace in the second free practice session at close to lap record pace.

Lowes had crashed this morning but unfazed he came straight back out fighting and improved his pace to keep American PJ Jacobsen in second place as the Tyco Suzuki rider again had an impressive performance at the Dutch circuit.

Milwaukee Yamaha charged up the order in the closing ten minutes as Title Fighter James Ellison went third fastest ahead of an improving Ryuichi Kiyonari who pushed himself up the order after some changes in the Samsung Honda garage during the session.

Defending champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne completed the top five ahead of Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team-mate Noriyuki Haga and Quattro Plant Bournemouth Kawasaki's Chris Walker who charged up the order. Jakub Smrz was back in the top ten for Padgetts Honda ahead of Josh Brookes and Tommy Bridewell who completed the top ten. The only Title Fighter not to make the top ten was James Westmoreland who finished twelfth fastest after a crash in the final five minutes of the session.
