World Champion Jorge Lorenzo asserted his authority in FP1 at the Gran Premio Iveco de Aragon, with Repsol Honda pair Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa behind him on the timesheet.

The form rider in the premier class at present, Yamaha Factory Racing man Lorenzo was determined not to let Marquez gain any psychological advantage early in the weekend and shot to the top at the end of the session with a 1’49.753 lap, to lead by just 0.008s.

The top five was completed by GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista and Yamaha Factory Racing’s Valentino Rossi, who were respectively 0.466s and 0.746s down on Lorenzo’s best time.

Also in the top ten were LCR Honda’s Stefan Bradl, Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Cal Crutchlow, Ducati pair Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden and Crutchlow’s teammate Bradley Smith.

Yonny Hernandez got his first outing in a GP on the Ignite Pramac Racing Ducati, which he tested at Misano, finishing FP1 in 18th spot. Meanwhile Luca Scassa came in as a substitute for Karel Abraham in the Cardion AB Motoracing team in 20th place.

Damian Cudlin got his Paul Bird Motorsport MotoGP adventure off to a start by propping up the timesheet in 24th position.
