The final Showdown: The statistics
[Image: bsblogo.jpg]

The 2013 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship will be decided at Brands Hatch next week and ahead of the triple-header title decider here are some statistics ahead of the season finale.

The one point margin between Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and Alex Lowes ahead of Brands Hatch is the closest gap in the standings since the Showdown was introduced. The previous gaps have been nine points between Byrne and Josh Brookes in 2012, eight points between John Hopkins and Tommy Hill in 2011 and eleven points between Hill and Brookes in 2010.

In the past three Showdowns this is the second time that a Kawasaki team has been leading the standings ahead of the final round - Byrne and Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki topped the standings after the penultimate round last year. In 2010 and 2011 it was Suzuki with Hill and Hopkins respectively.

Five manufacturers have been part of the Showdown six for the second consecutive season (Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and BMW) which is the same as in 2012. In 2010 it was between three (Honda, Suzuki, Ducati) and the same in 2011 (Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda).

In the past three Showdowns only once has the rider leading the standings into the final round won the title - Byrne last season. In 2010 Kiyonari came from third to lift the title and in 2011 Hill won from second.

The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship has been won by three different manufactures in as many seasons - Honda last won the title in 2010, Yamaha in 2011 and Kawasaki last season in 2012.

The most race wins in a Showdown to date was Byrne last season with four ahead of Kiyonari in 2010 when he won three.

Byrne is the only rider to have featured as a Title Fighter and have claimed a podium finish in each of the Showdown races when he did so last year.

Out of the six 2013 Title Fighters four have scored Showdown wins in the past - Byrne, Lowes, Brookes and Kiyonari whilst Ellison has finished on the podium.

Of the current Title Fighters four have previously lined up in the top six - Byrne, Lowes, Brookes and Kiyonari. Ellison narrowly missed out in 2010 when he broke he femur at Thruxton but recovered to claim the Riders Cup title whilst James Westmoreland claimed the same title last season.

The final title-deciding round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship takes place at Brands Hatch on 18/19/20 October with a triple-header round.
