32nd Milestone to be renamed 'Dukes'
It is reported on www.iomtt.com that a ceremony will take place on Saturday morning at 10.30am to officially rename the triple left-hand-bend at the 32nd Milestone 'Dukes' after TT legend Geoff Duke. Geoff is quoted as saying : "The 32nd , three left handers, is one of the most satisfying corners on the course, providing you get it right. It does catch a lot of riders out, it is important to get the first of the bends right or you can be in difficulties. I remember seeing Harold Daniell taking the bends flat out on the Garden Gate Norton in 1949. It was unbelievable; a most difficult corner, taken superbly on an ill-handling machine."
This is a richly-deserved honour for one of the all-time greats of the TT and motorcycling in general, and a true gentleman. Geoff recently celebrated his 80th birthday and was also made a Freeman of Douglas a couple of weeks ago. He still takes a keen interest in the TT and will doubtless be out and about regularly during this year's races.
