Shane 'Shakey' Byrne proved the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team will be back fighting for the top spot in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Thruxton today (Sunday), as the series leader topped the warm up session.

Byrne starts from the second row for the opening race today and he edged out his closest title rival Josh Brookes by 0.256s with Ryuichi Kiyonari on the Buildbase BMW leaping up the order this morning to run third fastest.

Michael Rutter continued his impressive form for the Bathams BMW team in fourth position with Tyco Suzuki's John Hopkins firing the Tyco Suzuki into fifth. Quattro Plant Bournemouth Kawasaki's Dan Linfoot was sixth fastest ahead of his front row start for the opening race with Tommy Bridewell in seventh place.

RAF Reserves Honda returned to the top ten in eighth with Chris Walker on the lone Lloyds British GBmoto Racing Kawasaki and Howie Mainwaring completing the top ten.
