Ryuichi Kiyonari kicked off the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship round at Cadwell Park by setting the pace in the opening free practice session, pushing 0.219s ahead of Shane 'Shakey' Byrne as the Japanese ace bids to confirm his Showdown position this weekend.

Kiyonari started the session strongly and he held on to the position throughout the session despite Byrne striking back in the closing stages on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki to move to second. The triple title-winners held off Josh Brookes on the Milwaukee Yamaha as he begun to impress the crowds at the Mountain in third.

Quattro Plant Kawasaki's Dan Linfoot moved ahead of Jon Kirkham on the Halsall Biker Gear Kawasaki to claim fourth following his debut podium finish last time out at Oulton Park as the pair closed down the leading trio in the final ten minutes of the session.

Lloyds British GBmoto Racing Kawasaki had both of their riders inside the top ten with Chris Walker in sixth place and the heroically returning James Ellison in tenth place this morning. Peter Hickman, Tommy Bridewell and Howie Mainwaring splitting the pair.
