Reeves and Cluze fight hard for wins

The sun was shining for the start of race on of the FIM Sidecar F2 World trophy. As the lights went out it was Michael Grabmuller and Sophia Kirchhofer on their “PSV Wels-Delta Racing Team” LCR, Yamaha 600 who got the whole shot into the first corner followed by Gunther Bachmaier and Georg Moser on their LCR, Suzuki 60o, right on their tails was Gordon Shand and Phil Hyde on their “Shand Racing” Shand, Suzuki 600.

Echart Rosinger and Andy Kolloch slotted in behind Shand and Hyde on their “Baker” Suzuki 600. By lap two Shand and Hyde had managed to get by Bachmaier and Moser for second. French team Remy Guinard and Frederique Poux were going well and managed to get up to third with their “MR Equipe” 600 Honda but they were getting pressure from a fast charging Tim Reeves and Gregory Cluze on their “SMT, Remse Racing” DMR, Honda 600, who had made a poor start from pole position.

As the race was drawing to an end Reeves and Cluze were to have a fight with Grabmuller and Kirchhofer. Reeves was finding it hard to get by Grabmuller, and when he did Grabmuller was back at him. Eventually Reeves and Cluze took the lead and made it stick. Reeves and Cluze took the chequred flag for the win over Grabmuller and Kirchhofer, it was not an easy win for Reeves and Cluze, but they were really pleased with it. Grabmuller and Kirchhofer were overjoyed with their second place and they did have the fastest lap of the race, a time of 1:38.098. Crossing the line in third place was Gordon Shand and Phil Hyde. Shand and Hyde were pleased with the result, Shand said after the race “once the leading pair started to pull away we could not keep with them, it was a lonely race for us but we are happy with this result. We will see if we can do better in the next race.”

Taking the chequered flag for fourth was Eckart Rosinger and Andy Kolloch with their “Team Early Gray” Baker, Suzuki 600. It was a lonely race for the pair but they too were happy with the result.

Fifth place went to Remy Guinard and Frederique Poux. They were happy, but after a good start, they hoped that they could keep in the top three, but it was not to be.

After a blistering start, Bachmaier and Moser slipped down to sixth, and they were to cross the line in this position. Race two saw the teams arriving to the line with spots of rain in the air. It was declared a dry race though. As the lights went out it was Grabmuller and Kirchhofer who again got the whole shot into the first complex of corners followed by Guinard and Poux with Shand and Hyde right on the two leaders tails. Just behind them was Enrico Wirth and Gerd Gorlich on their LCR, Kawasaki 600.

On lap three the French pairing of Guingnard and Poux were to retire from second place, and the race, with a blown engine, a big disappointment for the team. By this time Shand and Hyde were under pressure from Reeves and Cluze who had made a terrible start, the Anglo French pairing of Reeves and Cluze had fought their way up to third behind Shand and Hyde from a lowly eleventh place on the first lap. Reeves got by Shand and gave chase to Grabmuller, leaving Shand and Hyde to have another lonely race in third.

Reeves and Cluze got to terms with Grabmuller and Kirchhofer and once they got by, there was no stopping them, they managed to get a healthy lead and this was to stay till the end of the race. The race was to be run over 15 laps, but the rain got a bit heavier and on lap 10 for safety, the red flags came out. The race was declared a result. Reeves and Cluze winners, and getting the fastest lap of the race, a time of 1:37.616.

Grabmuller and Kirchhofer were second with Shand and Hyde third. So it was the same top three as the first race, giving Reeves and Cluze the overall win. Reeves and Cluze were overjoyed with the wins and getting the FIM Sidecar F2 World Trophy for the first time. As too were Grabmuller and Kirchhofer, very pleased with the result, Sophia Kirchhofer said “this is great, I am so happy to have finished in second place with Michael, I really enjoyed the two races, battling with Tim and Greg” Gordon Shand and Phil Hyde were pleased to have finished third overall. “This is good for the team, they have worked hard all season and to get top three in the World Trophy is great” said Shand. Fourth place went again to Rosinger and Kolloch. They were happy with this, and Rosinger said “I hope we can build on this weekend and it will get bigger next year. I think we will have a small party tonight”

Fifth place went to Bachmaier and Moser. They had two good results and enjoyed racing in this World Trophy Sixth place went to Mike Roscher and Anna Burkard on their “RSC Hanni Racing” LCR Suzuki 600. “This is good for us, but we have a lot of work to still do this weekend, we race the F1 sidecar tomorrow, but we are happy with the result” said Roscher.

Seventh place went to Enrico Wirth and Gerd Gorlich on their LCR, Kawasaki 600. The team were happy with the way the weekend had gone, and no problems with the machine.

Eighth place went to the overjoyed team of Barry Smith and Robert Shorter on their “Car Cox Motorsport NZ” BLR,Suzuki 600. “This is great for the team. We hope that we can come back to Europe next year and compete in some championships” said Smith.
