Sunday saw a huge crowd line the track at Brands Hatch for the close of the 2014 MCE British Superbike season. Both RAF Reserves Honda riders were looking to round off what has been a fantastic season for results in both Superbike and Pirelli National Superstock classes with more success on the Kent GP circuit.

Superstock rider Conor Cummins looked to build on Saturdays qualifying results with an improved position on the final race of the season for the big Manx man. Starting from 20th on the grid, Cummins got a characteristically fast start immediately pushing him up the field. Conor continued to push the RAF Reserves fireblade to the edge, passing multiple riders quickly and cleanly as he moved into the top 15. As the race progressed Cummins continued to move further toward the front and up into 13th spot. He defended his position and continued his consistency, crossing the line in 13th and looking as strong as ever on the Honda Fireblade.

RAF Reserves Superbike rider Peter Hickman also had aspirations to finish in the top ten of the championship; this meant beating Hopkins on his Tyco Suzuki in all three races of the weekend. Hickman couldn’t capitalize on Hopkins retirement from race one by only scoring three points, that tenth spot was still all to play for in the last two races on Sunday. Starting from 15th on the grid in race 2, Hickman didn’t get the best start and dropped a few places into turn one. From then on he had his work cut out and begun moving back up the field, passing confidently on the Honda and moving up towards the top 10. Riding in an attacking fashion Hickman crossed the line in 11th position picking up more points towards his championship total.

Race 3 was not only the final race of the weekend, but the final race of the 2014 season and Hickman took to the grid in dry yet windy conditions full of confidence on the RAF Reserves Honda machine. After changes from race 2, the man from Louth got a thunderous start from 12th on the grid, immediately passing riders Hickman continued to ride hard but also very calculated, battling for a few laps to pass Chris Walker for 9th delayed his challenge on Hopkins, Hickman was on the advance lapping much faster than Hopkins and closing the gap on track, with only three laps to go the team waited in anticipation for the pass to happen. Unfortunately a red flag drew the race to a premature result meaning that he had to settle for 9th - Yet another top 10 finish for the RAF Reserves Honda team and another very strong performance out qualifying and performing the official Honda UK team in all three races.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported the RAF Reserves Honda team based at RAF Marham, we have had an amazing season with our maiden BSB win and to finish 11th in a British Superbike Championship is an incredible achievement for such a small team on so little budget. This season is dedicated to my best friend Simon Andrews as without him making me believe in myself that this venture was achievable we would never be where we are today. “Thanks Mate”
