Dr Joe Ehrlich
Just heard of the passing of Dr Joe. His first racers, the EMC-Puch, were never outstanding, but provided early post-war racers with a lightweight machinery.
In the early 60s his EMCs were a thorn in the side of the mighty Honda, ridden by Mike the Bike, Derek Minter, Rex Avery, Paddy Driver, Tony Godfrey and others.
In latter years, the Rotax-powered EMC and Waddon-EMC was to provide him with three TT wins, the Junior (250) races of 1982 to 1983, ridden by Con Law, and the 1984 race, ridden by Graeme McGregor.

Re: Dr Joe Ehrlich
An icon amongst engine designers. He was supported by our Jack Brabham in the development of his Mayfair engine, see

<A HREF="http://www.mayflower-e3.com/story/mn_joe_ehrlich.html">http://www.mayflower-e3.com/story/mn_joe_ehrlich.html</A>

for more details. Was it just a coicidence that there is an article on this revolutionary motor in todays edition of MCN or did they know he had died?

Re: Dr Joe Ehrlich
Sad to see that "Dr.Joe" had passed away.A fine engineer and original designer, always underfunded compared to the opposition.
RIP

Re: Dr Joe Ehrlich
Most of Joe's machines are now sitting in a private garage belonging to Charlie Fearns in Oxton, Birkenhead. Last saw them about a year ago.

Re: Dr Joe Ehrlich
He didnt mind a bit of controversy, especially if the papers got hold of it.If I remember right he got up Suzukis nose by claiming to have designed a square four, rotary valved 2 stroke 500 before the RG came out.He had the engineering drawings to prove it,too...
Another character gone...
