Bob Wylie launches his 2016 race team with Christian Elkin and Richard Kerr.

Bob Wylie Racing will again run Christian Elkin and Richard Kerr in 2016.

Former competitor turned sponsor and team owner Wylie continues to support the sport, with his commitment stretching back many years.

A joiner by trade, Bob is a former sponsor of Steve Hazlett, who scored a race win at the Manx Grand Prix and followed up with a podium on his full debut at the Isle of Man TT.

Wylie Racing has joined forces with Red Line Racing this season, headed by Nick Carpenter.

Current Irish and Ulster Supertwin short circuit champion Elkin - a former British 125cc champion - will compete in a full season of Irish championship racing and also plans to return to the North West 200, Armoy and Ulster Grand Prix road races.

“It’s fantastic to have continued support from Bob, we go racing to enjoy ourselves and I couldn’t ask for more,” Elkin said.

“The budget outlay for 2016 means I will just be riding the Triumph this season on the circuits and at selected road events.”

Meanwhile, schoolboy Kerr will have the use of a very special ex-Grand Prix machine in the form of a 2015 KTM RC250 Moto3 bike, which was ridden by Jakub Kornfeil last year.

Kornfeil finished 12th in the world championship and clinched a second place at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and Kerr is understandably excited to have the chance to race such a trick machine.

Last year was a learning curve for the former Irish Moto3 champion but Kerr secured an excellent third place in the British Motostar race at Cadwell Park and hopes to progress further this season.

“I’m really looking forward to the season ahead,” said the 15-year-old from Kilmacrenan in County Donegal.

“My aim is to be running at the front and hopefully get podiums and maybe win some races.

“It won’t be easy: there’s a lot of quick guys my age and older, all with same frame of mind. I need to be giving 100 per-cent all the time with myself and when I am riding the bike.

“I’ve been training hard over the winter and I’m grateful to Bob for believing in me and continuing his much valued support,”
he added.

“The new KTM will be a new challenge for me. I know what the bike is capable of, so if the bike is running how it should be, then it’s down to me.”

Both riders will be in action at Bishopscourt and Kirkistown for the Easter weekend meetings, while Kerr’s first outing in the British Championships will be at Silverstone from April 8-10

Team owner Wylie said:

“It’s great to have two riders who appreciate my support. Christian will continue to race the Triumph and Richard will have the use of an ex works KTM for the British Moto3 Championship. He’s a quality young rider, and I just want to give him the best equipment possible.”
