Saturday’s big Easter Irish short circuit Enkalon meeting at Bishopscourt in Co. Down has been abandoned due to inclement weather.

Heavy rain and high winds forced the cancellation of the popular Bank Holiday weekend event outside Downpatrick without a single race being held.

Following a delay of around two hours, the organisers reluctantly made the decision to call it quits with a grim forecast for the remainder of the day indicating continued rain.

It was a disappointing end to the 40th anniversary of the famous race, which is the oldest short circuit meeting in Ireland.

On Good Friday, the first set of races did go ahead, with David Haire victorious in the Superbike class and William Dunlop chalking up his maiden win of 2016 on the CD-IC Racing Yamaha in the Supersport class.

Kirkistown is next up on Easter Monday when the promoting Belfast & District Club will be hoping for much improved conditions on the Ards Peninsula.
