Ryan Farquhar remains seriously ill in intensive care in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, North West officials have said.

The 40-year-old Co Tyrone rider came off his bike on the third lap of the Supertwins race, which he was leading.

He was airlifted to the RVH for surgery on Thursday night and is in intensive care. He is believed to have chest and pelvic injuries, but doctors said they were happy with his progress and are optimistic of a full recovery.

The other rider involved in the crash, Dan Cooper, suffered dislocated shoulders but was back in the paddock on Friday.

Meanwhile, Castledawson rider Nico Mawhinney is stable in the RVH after his crash on Thursday.

Northern Ireland’s Ryan Farquhar has been moved out of intensive care at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and is now in a stable condition.

The Dungannon rider crashed during Thursday’s Supertwins race while leading on his SGS KMR Kawasaki and was left seriously ill with chest and pelvic injuries.

Gloucestershire’s Dan Cooper was caught up in the incident but escaped with shoulder injuries and has since been released from hospital.

A statement from the North West 200 organisers released on Monday afternoon said: “The Belfast Trust have confirmed that Ryan Farquhar has now left the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and is in a stable condition.”

Meanwhile, Castledawson’s Nico Mawhinney, a newcomer to the event, remains stable in the RVH following his crash during Superbike qualifying on Thursday.

Fermanagh’s Paul Gartland, who came off in Saturday’s Superstock race at University, is also in a stable condition in hospital in Belfast.
