Think again Doc: Michael Dunlop vows to ignore orders and race on after another injury

Walking wounded Michael Dunlop has been told his season is over after suffering yet another injury - a suspected broken right wrist - following his herculean efforts in winning the Race of Legends and Open race at Armoy last weekend.

The road racing superstar is still recovering from breaking his pelvis, fracturing ribs and chipping a hip bone in a crash during the Southern 100 on the Isle of Man just over two weeks ago and requires the aid of crutches to walk about.

But that didn't stop him securing a double at Armoy before attending A&E on Saturday evening for treatment on his latest injury.

Dunlop's right forearm is now in plaster and the doctor who attended to the 30-year-old informed him that he would need to bring an immediate end to his road racing ambitions this season to fully recuperate from his injuries.

However, a defiant Dunlop, who has won 19 times at the Isle of Man TT, last night insisted he would ignore medical advice and continue to race through the pain barrier.

The proud Ballymoney lad wrote on his Facebook page: "The Doc reckons that's the end of race season for this year - Think again Doc..."

Dunlop is scheduled to race at the Ulster Grand Prix with practice beginning in eight days' time, and also the Classic TT on the Isle of Man which starts on August 17.

He opted to sit out the second half of last season following the tragic death of his close brother William during practice at Skerries last July.

Meanwhile, Glenn Irwin, who parted company with Quattro Plant Kawasaki last week, has joined Tyco BMW for the remainder of the British Superbikes season, where he will ride alongside Christian Iddon and campaign BMW Motorrad S1000RR machinery. He will make his debut for the team at Thruxton this weekend.
