Virtual TT could be run this year

With TT cancelled, racing fans could still get the chance to see some motor action on Manx roads this year.

Enterprise Minister Laurence Skelly, whose department is responsible for the races, said work is taking place to determine if a virtual race could be held this year.

The potential for a virtual TT was raised after the success of this year’s virtual Grand National which aired on ITV and saw millions of pounds donated to NHS charities.

Mr Skelly said:

’I know my colleague Rob Callister [MHK, Onchan] is bringing that up with our motorsport team.’

This year’s TT was cancelled due to the pandemic.

It marked the first time the event had been cancelled since the 2001 foot and mouth crisis in the UK and only the second time the event had not been run after it was reinstated in 1947 following the end of the Second World War.

The Minister also confirmed that a decision on the Manx Grand Prix fortnight, scheduled to run from August 22 to September 4, will be made early next month.
