I see from manx radio news that the cost of using a Taxi on the island has increased just in time for tt. They must have the most expensive Taxis in the u.k. now. £3.50 for 180 Yds, or 60 seconds ????.. More after 11pm. Looks like a long walk back to the campsite now.!!! Soon be there...

Given it's the first rise since 2022, with high inflation and fuel price increases - a rise of just over 8.5% doesn't seem too unreasonable.....

What is happening with the taxi's?
Last year we waited ages for one at the ferry terminal to get to our digs.
Pre pandemic there were huge queues of cars that filled up with visitors.
I noticed whilst waiting loads of coaches in the car park filling up.

IOM Taxi fares are comparable with must UK cities. Fuel, repairs and servicing all cost more here too.
The recent increases were very small, but the big one hidden in amongst it all was the premium rate shifting from 12.00am till 11.00pm.

The premium rate adds one third onto the fare tariff and ran from midnight until 6.00am. It now starts at 11 instead.

These by the way are the maximum charge rates. Drivers are permitted to charge less.

The rates are set by a government body the Road Transport Licensing Committee and not the drivers.
