Lightweight Classic
9 laps of the Billown circuit and with these weather conditions we could be looking at new lap and race records today. Bob Jackson the present lap record holder at 2' 46" in 1997.

One of the favourites Paul Coward out at the start line.

Roy Richardson (3' 05" from a standing start) and Mike Hose out in front together at the end of lap 1.

David Spencer retires at the end of lap 1

Roy Richardson and Mike Hose pulling away from the rest of the field at the end of lap 2, with Bill Wark and Tom Jackson in 3rd and 4th a long way back.

Bud Jackson out at the end of lap 2.

Mike Hose on Roy Richardsons tail at Church Bends and staying with him (0.5sec gap). 3rd and 4th the same.

Tom Jackson moves into 3rd place on lap 3,

Mervyn Stratford going well on lap 3 in 8th place.

Richardson leads at the end of lap 3 with Mike Hose still on his tail. A long gap to Bill Wark in 3rd place with Tom Jackson close on him.

Re: Lightweight Classic
Roy Richardson clocks 2' 58" on his 3rd lap and closing in on that lap record.

Roy Richardson seems to be breaking away from Mike Hose at Cross Fourways on lap 5, (25/30 yard gap).

Bill Wark and Tom Jackson then Roger Hurst in 3, 4 & 5.

6th lap - Richardson and Hose still way out in front with Wark and Tom Jackson in 3 and 4.

Only 14 riders on the same lap as the leader.

7th lap - Cross Fourways - Richardson makes a slight break from Hose, then a bunch of backmarkers follow them through including David Brasier and Peter Large

End of Lap 7 Richardson is over 7 seconds up on Hose.

Re: Lightweight Classic
Roy Richardson looks as if he is on for the win as he is a long way out in front of Mike Hose with a 17 secs gap on lap 7.

Places 3 & 4 remain with Bill Wark and Tom Jackson.

Richardson on lap 8 goes through Cross Fourways way out in front of Mike Hose.

Re: Lightweight Classic
An incident at Cross Fourways brings out the yellow flag. It looks as if it may involve Tom Jackson and Bill Wark. Tom Jackson it is and fortunately nothing serious apart from losing his place.

Placings

Roy Richardson
Mike Hose
Bill Wark
Roger Hurst *
Peter Richardson
Les Trotter

* denotes newcomer
