Another Italian connection with the TT lost
Umberto Masetti who started twice at the Isle of Man in 1955 but failed to finish in both the 125 and 250 events on an MV died this year aged 80.
From all reports he was a bit of a lad and had a Mickey Mouse logo on his helmet like someone else I know.
He was born on May 4, 1926 in Parma. He won his first World title, riding a Gilera. He finished third in 1951 and won again the title in 1952. He was again third in 1955 and sixth in 1956, riding an MV Agusta. He won six 500cc Grand Prix races.

Re: Another Italian connection with the TT lost
He passed away in his home near Maranello (the world famous town of the Ferrari factory) on 29.05.2006. I had forgotten that he had raced on the isle of Man (but not on the Mountain circuit). He had a few known motorcycle racing career in South America where he went to live after his retirement from the world championship scene. But he came back - other few know thing - in Europe to race at the first "200 Miglia" at Imola in 1972 (that was won by the brave english rider Paul Smart). He practiced on a Moto Guzzi V7 but (*if* I'm remembering right) decided to not start due to the lack of power of his machine.
