[quote=Don Simons]

The Audi TT was to commemorate Tazio Nuvolari who drove their grand prix cars, he was famous for winning the Ulster TT in an MG. The car's name TT has nothing to do with the IOM TT because as everyone knows Nuvolari was unfairly prevented from starting there because he was carrying an injury; a policy which has not been applied evenly over the years, if anyone can remember Robert Dunlop one time throwing away his crutch at the prize giving ceremony.

Don, will you for Gawd's sake stop peddling that nonsensical Nuvolari story.

You've seen the photo of him on the Island with his hand/fingers in enormous splints, and you admitted to me that you wouldn't have let him out.

The ACU have always been able to make unfair/stupid/cretinous decisions all on their own, without the need for more to be fabricated!!

"TT 2012 will be under new sponsorship and will be known as the Audi TT. The road closing car will be an Audi product. This will ensure an income stream which was not available in the past where parochial interests, who will remain nameless, were not charged sponsorship fees."

Of course that was idle speculation but if you want my real opinion, then I don't think the TT needs a course CAR at all; a brightly painted sidecar or solo bike would do just as well.

I think a major beer sponsor will be next.
Ahhhh The Fosters TT, that would go down well.
But then again one of the locals would probably claim royalties on the use of his name.

I think you can find him on TV' Blurp or what ever its called now, which is exactly where you will find the video of Larry and Don's fight. Current odds are Larry 10-1 Don about quarter past twelve... thats the times they will probably get up, but actual odds are Larry 2-1 on and Don 100-1 just because he is so far away we can call him the outsider....... smiliesmilieYahoo

A clean shaven Larry faces up to Don. Apparently the shave is to avoid the wily antipodean catching him by the short and curlies!

No Larry I would not have let Nuvolari start that is true, but then again I would not have let Robert Dunlop start either.
But when I am standing in the pub on the corner at Ramsey watching the riders approaching Parliament Square and one rider appears lap after lap riding with only one hand it is pretty hard to erase the thought of one of the best motorcyclists of his time not being allowed to start in the very British TT.
The whole Italian team in the year in question is reported to have been depressed by both the food, the weather and the frosty, officious Anglo Saxon reception they received.
Some even wanted to return home.
Where is Marco when I need him?

And as to the Audi TT being named after an NSU motorcycle rider, well I suppose only the Audi marketing executives know the answer to that one.

What you're telling us, Don, is that the ACU of those years was a lot more sensible than in more recent times.

But we knew that anyway!!

To settle all the arguments over the course car.
Why not let the Chief Travelling Marshal do the job on his motorcycle, with full headlights on, flashing indecators and wearing a reflective orange jacket instead of the yellow one worn for normal marshalling duties.

RE: TT roads open driver quits over car switch
Isn’t it an ironic situation that the once Anglocentric TT now sees fit to replace the cozy but long standing arrangement by bringing in a foreign firm who are willing to actually pay to advertise their automobiles at the worlds greatest motorcycle road race. I would be spitting chips too if I was DM..
Yes Larry, the Nuvolari / Robert Dunlop analogy at seven decades distance was drawing a long bow but parochialism is alive and well on the Island and in Rugby. Only avarice and commercialism are stronger.
Love and hate on the IOM are a strange mixture, note the hysteria when any bike with a whiff of UK credentials (Rotary Norton with a NSU designed engine or the NZ Britten which almost sounded like Britain) makes an appearance.
Then if an outspoken ex TT winner from the old empire tries to get an entry without enough brownie points on the ACU/insurance inspired TT course licence he is told where to go.
However if the famous Nigel Mansell brings his loot to the Island he is universally despised.
Even more mysterious is how the government has turned against their own establishment to give a free hand to vested interests from across the water.
More irony is that, if allowed to continue, the course car this year would have been from an Indian owned manufacturer.
Still if Max Mosely can go to bed with the Germans, why not the ACU and the DTL?

I don't think he actually went to bed with them, Don, and indeed I believe that they were only make-believe Germans

Ok Don, maybe you are taking it all a little too personnally... but then again what if the Peel P50 can be used as the course car, but then again it would take a day to open the roads and it is TT WEEK and not TT MONTH.

Well the Peel P50 had a German engine so I am afraid that it would not qualify. My choice if we must have a car would be a Reliant Simitar or perhaps the Cooper Mini S - Oh no, damn, they are made by BMW now. Well at least Larry would be happy he rides the two wheeled variety.
Seriously though, I did love to see that big Jag roaring around the course and old David could certainly point it.
Thank you God, I have won one point this week, those girls were indeed Germans, sorry Mr D.
