No dramatic change to TT viewing areas, say organisers

CROWD SCENE: The issue of spectator access was high on the agenda of a meeting of the TT co-ordinating committee on Friday, April 11

SPECTATORS will be in 'no doubt' which areas on the TT course will be prohibited, race organisers have pledged.

There will no dramatic increase in the number of areas banned to the public but there will be 'one or two' extra, said TT spokesman Simon Crellin.

The issue was high on the agenda of a meeting of the TT co-ordinating committee last Friday.

Agreements with landowners and government departments for each site along the length of the course are currently being 'signed off' – and a full list of prohibited areas is expected to be announced at the end of the week.

But TT spokesman Simon Crellin said: 'There will be one or two changes but it's not going to be dramatic. We want to make sure people are able to enjoy the races but at the same time we have a duty of care to them.'

He said that each prohibited area would be clearly signed, with maps also available at each site showing the boundaries.

Information on which areas are banned to spectators will be publicised in the media. Organisers are also looking at producing a booklet giving details of the prohibited areas.

The moves come following stinging criticism of race management made by Coroner Michael Moyle following the inquest into the deaths of the competitor and two spectators killed in the closing laps of the Senior Race at the 26th Milestone at the TT last year.

It emerged that, although the area where the spectators had been standing was a prohibited area, there were no signs warning the public and there was also confusion over who was responsible for ensuring the signs were in place.

Mr Crellin said: 'People will be in no doubt that these are prohibited areas. They will be clearly marked.

'And everybody in a position of responsibility will understand what they need to do. Checklists will be in place.'

Interesting, thanks Gary. Having the list out by the end of this week is great and will give loads of time for spectators to plan. If there's only "one or two extra" areas then there should be plenty of room to go round.

RE: tt spectating
Is that "one or two extra" on top of the restrictions in place at the 07 Manx Grand Prix or the 07 TT?
