Rider is killed in motorbike race

Martin Finnegan died in the crash

A rider has died following a collision at the Tandragee 100 motorbike race.

Martin Finnegan, 29 and from the Dublin area, died in the accident at Marlacoo Corner shortly after 1400 BST. He was taking part in the Supersport 600 race.

Three spectators were injured, two males and one female. The woman was taken to hospital with head injuries.

None of the injuries suffered by the spectators are thought to be life-threatening. The meeting was abandoned after the accident.

Mr Finnegan had earlier won the open race.

The married father-of-one was competing this year for the JMF Millsport Yamaha team.

Rider John Donnan was killed in last year's Tandragee event.

The 42-year-old crashed at the chicane near the start-finish area when attempting to avoid another competitor who had lost control of his bike.

My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family.

RE: Martin Finnegan
I am stunned.
We saw a lot of him in the klaffi paddock VIP days.

Finbar was a larger than life character and my heart goes out to his family.

I am struggling to believe I will never see his smiling face again. I don't think I ever saw Martin not smiling, except when he was grinning. A big guy, with a huge personality, and not a bad bone in him.
Martin was a one-off, with so many friends and admirers, and will be so much missed.
My thoughts are with his family, and in particular his wife and little girl.

Stunned. Heard this on Manx Radio at 5pm and it was the quietest trip over the mountain in the car ever.

Hard to believe that we will not see #4 at the TT this year although the progrmas are printed or #45 at other circuits again for that matter.

As Chris Kinley stated, this is the nature of the beast and all of us who race know the risks involved and I know it is cliche but he died persuing his passion.

My heartfelt condolences to Martins Wife, Daughter, Family, Team and so many friends.

Can't believe this news.
Martin gave me an update of the Southern100 circuit in one of the last road races I did, that's the kind of guy he was, I didn't know him well but Helena always kept in touch with me from time to time.

Thinking of you Helena and all the family.

Yahoo, I've achieved 3 guidelines for the Island Games & I'm selected ! May see you after at the S100 & Jurby Road.

It was so nice to have known you and have a laugh with you. You are one big guy who will be missed around the paddocks and on the course. Taken in your prime before your time, may you rest in peace.

A smile that could light the darkest room
A wit that made us cry and laugh
A twinkle in those mischievious eyes
A chuckle that came from the heart

Your smile will never be forgotten
As your memory lives on in our hearts
A cherished husband, father son and friend
Dearest Martin may you find peaceful rest

My love and deepest condolences to Martin's family, friends and colleagues at this time.
