Support for Injured TT Riders, Their Families and Dependents

It is less than a month since the end of a fantastic week of TT racing but unfortunately for some riders, competing in the races, the event will be memorable for the wrong reasons.

All the riders competing in the TT do so with the knowledge that it is a hard and uncompromising event and accidents can and do occur. On many occasions these accidents can result in serious injuries that require significant recovery times, or may even result in life long disabilities.

The TT Riders Association, and its offshoot the Friends Of The TTRA, are the only registered Manx Charities that raise money to provide support to TT riders, who may have been injured or are in need of support through old age, ill health or some other reason as well as organisations connected to the welfare of riders.

In addition to providing help to riders we quite often assist their families and/or dependents if, tragically, a rider is killed during competition or when they die and help is needed.

The TTRA is able to provide help to ALL riders who may need it, and does so to the tune of many thousands of pounds a year in grants.

It is a fact of life that often the less well know riders, who are injured or need help, can become easily overlooked - but support for them is no less needed or appreciated by the recipients.

The TTRA hopes that when people are planning fund raising events on the Island, or further afield, they will consider making a donation to the TTRA so we can continue with our valuable work.

Alternatively fans of the TT could consider joining "The Friends" and in doing so help raise funds for the TTRA. Lifetime membership of FOTTRA costs a minimum of £150, which is used to help fund the grants made by the TTRA.

For details to send donations to the TTRA, contact Frances Thorp. Hon Sec. Mountain View, Glen Maye, Isle of Man, IM5 3BJ. or Inquiries regarding FOTTRA membership can be made to David Plant, Hon Sec. Kionlough Farm, Bride, Isle of Man, IM7 4AG.

Frances Thorp,
Hon Sec
TT Riders Association.
