Steve Plater hurt in North West 200 practice crash

Superbike race favourite Steve Plater was taken to hospital with a suspected broken wrist after crashing during North West 200 practice on Thursday.

The eight-times NW winner came off his HM Plant Honda at Quarry Hill on the Coast Road just before the finish area.

If the injury is confirmed, the 41-year-old will miss Saturday's action after securing Superbike pole position.

Other pole positions went to Conor Cummins (Superstock), Michael Dunlop (Supersport) and William Dunlop (125).

Earlier, the practice had been held up by rain and the 125cc session took place before the Superbikes resumed.

Plater, from Woodhall Spa, is the reigning British Supersport champion.

He took pole position for Saturday's Superbike race through the time he recorded in the first practice session on Tuesday.

The best average time on Thursday's was Scotsman Keith Amor's 117.18mph which gave him third place on the grid.
